Q Group Colloquium a success for researchersThe Department of Accounting and Finance sponsored the fourth Q Group Colloquium on Empirical and Quantitative Finance on Wednesday March 12, 2008. The colloquium is a joint event between Monash University's Department of Accounting and Finance and the Institute of Quantitative Analysis in Finance (Q Group). The colloquium presents an opportunity for academia and industry to discuss engagement, research and emerging issues in the field of finance. Associate Professor Madhu Veeraraghavan, Deputy Head, Department of Accounting of Finance at Monash University, officially opened the colloquium held at Goldman Sachs JB Were's Melbourne premises. The Colloquium offers an opportunity for the Department of Accounting and Finance to work closely with industry. Petko Kalev, Monash coordinator for the Colloquium states "the Q Group Colloquium is an opportunity for the Department of Accounting and Finance to enhance the quality of our research outcomes by working with the industry to ensure that our research reflects the current issues faced by practitioners and regulators; thus significantly contributing to current knowledge, practice and standards." Dr. Leo de Bever from the Victorian Funds Management Corporation delivered the keynote address. The Q Group Colloquium's roundtable discussions focussed on "Subprime and Beyond: Insights from the Financial Coalface".
