Aspect Huntley Pty Ltd

Description:
Financial Database providing a comprehensive coverage of financial data on companies listed on the ASX and New Zealand Stock Exchange. Includes accounting information for around 1,100 to 1,200 companies listed on the ASX. The Aspect Database covers Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss and Cash flow Statement items. The database includes data items from preliminary final, annual and interim reports. The coverage and depth of the Aspect Financial data has improved over time.

Bankscope

Description:
Financial and ratings data, and ownership information for over 13,000 banks worldwide. Includes a financial analysis software program. NB. Bankscope is a library subscription. It can be accessed on campus at all of Monash University Australian campuses.

Bloomberg

Description:
A real-time financial information network which provides access to the Bloomberg financial database for use in custom applications, real time prices, history, news, analytics and research for global financial markets. Bloomberg collects data for 3.7 million securities across all markets worldwide. The markets covered include government and corporate bonds, mortgage, money-market, indices, currency, commodities and equities.

Compustat - S&P Research insight

Description:
Standard & Poor's Compustat ® provides extensive coverage of fundamental data and market data for securities around the globe. Compustat data is now only available via WRDS platform. The department subscribes to both Compustat NA and Compustat Global. It also has access to the CRSP/Compustat merged data.

Connect 4

Description:
Specialises in providing information on companies which are listed on the ASX. Information from this database is used to track and analyse activities such as Takeovers and Mergers, Capital Raisings, Auditing and Accounting practices, and Corporate Governance compliance.

Centre for Research in Security Prices (CRSP)

Description:
The Center for Research in Security Prices, often known by its acronym CRSP, is a research centre at the Booth School of Business of the University of Chicago. It maintains the most comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolios, treasury bond and risk-free rates, and mutual fund databases. It also provides CRSP/Compustat Merged Database, a database that simplifies matching COMPUSTAT financial data to the CRSP security price data.

DatAnalysis

Description:
Provides comprehensive data for all ASX listed companies. Reports are updated daily from relevant ASX announcements. Allows searches across all sections of the DatAnalysis database to provide a list of companies that match selected criteria. NB. DatAnalysis is a library subscription; it can be accessed from Monash University on-campus computers.

Datastream

Description:
Provides key data sets from both developed and emerging markets - equities, market indices, company accounts, macroeconomics, bonds, foreign exchange, interest rates, commodities and derivatives. NB. The Datastream subscription is shared between the library and the Department of Accounting & Finance. Postgraduate students and staff can access Datastream currently from computers in the Caulfield and Matheson libraries.

Dealscan

Description:
Provides information on the global commercial loan market. It provides users with access to Reuters Loan Pricing Corporation (LPC) database of detailed terms and conditions on over 155,000 loan and bond transactions. NB. Dealscan requires a token (two available) and can be accessed via library or department computers. Both tokens are held in the department.

FinAnalysis

Description:
Fin Analysis provides a 12-year history of detailed financial information for all companies listed on ASX. More than 400 data items are provided and the data is entered and audited by our team of experienced financial analysts. Innovative web-based research functions help make using, searching and interpreting the data as easy and efficient as possible.

I/B/E/S

Description:
I/B/E/S provides information on the earning estimates of companies as provided by analysts to institutional investors. It is provided on both a summary and detail level. We currently only receive I/B/E/S data for Australian companies. This I/B/E/S data is an input to the Monash Financial Database, (see below) and is reconciled with SPPR and Aspect Huntly Accounting data for Australian firms. Raw I/B/E/S data for Australia is also available on CD till August 2008 and FTP downloads thereafter. This dataset is now available via WRDS for both US and International.

IRESS

Description:
Database of security prices, exchange rates, commodity prices, and domestic and international economic indicators. Provides a range of information about Australian and New Zealand equities and equity derivative markets including:

  • real time ASX, options market and SFE quotes,
  • full market depth information, news and company reports,
  • market summary information (top movers, market capitalisation, index contribution),
  • broker market share,
  • comprehensive historical time series database,
  • powerful and historical and real-time charting capabilities,
  • option analytics package, integration with other applications (e.g. Excel).
Accessing IRESS requires software to be installed on your PC. The department has only one user license and hence limited usage will available to connect to IRESS at a given time.

SDC Platinum

Description:
Provides detailed financial transactions information on new issues including M&A, syndicated loans, private equity, and project finance. NB. SDC Platinum was originally a library subscription that was requested by the Department of Accounting and Finance. It can be accessed via academics' PCs after particular software is installed.

SIRCA

Description:
SIRCA is a leading provider of financial data and eResearch services to over 200 Universities, Regulators and financial market participants world-wide. SPPR – Annual Update (AGSM)

Description:
The Share Price and Price Relative (SPPR) data base is an historical record from December 1973 to present of ASX monthly share prices and calculated price relatives of all Australian listed and previously listed companies with fully paid shares. For each company, the share price, dividends including franking credits, adjustments for share issues and reconstructions, number of shares on issue and price relatives are held on a monthly basis. Pertinent company name information is also supplied.

Monash subscribes to annual updates of the SPPR (usually received in March each year) supplied on CD-ROM. Each user will need to copy the CD onto their PC according to instructions supplied by the AGSM.

WRDS Platform Accessible Databases

Description:
Wharton Research Data Services, or WRDS, is an Internet-based business data research service from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at Wharton, the service has since evolved to become a common tool for research for over 190 institutions around the world.

OSIRIS

Description:
OSIRIS is a comprehensive database of listed companies, banks and insurance companies around the world. Covering more than 190 countries OSIRIS contains information on over 52,000 companies with the following breakdown:

Orbis

Description:
ORBIS is a global database which has information on over 40 million companies. ORBIS includes advanced search and analysis software so you can identify and evaluate companies around the world using just one BvDEP product.

The companies breakdown as follows:

  • over 50,000 listed companies worldwide,
  • over 30,000 banks and 8,000 insurance companies,
  • over 18 million European companies from 46 countries,
  • over 16 million US and Canadian companies,
  • over 4 million South and Central American companies,
  • over 1.3 million Japanese companies and 300,000 Chinese companies
  • approximately 65,000 companies from other countries in the Far East and central Asia
  • approximately 40,000 African companies.

ZEPHYR

Description:
ZEPHYR is an information solution containing M&A, IPO and venture capital deals with links to detailed financial company information. ZEPHYR now contains information on over half a million transactions (August 2007). Up to 100,000 new deals are added per year. The database is also expanding to cover more historical American and Asian transactions. ZEPHYR has five years of global coverage and includes deals involving European or American companies going back to 1997.

Various deal types are covered including: M&A activity, IPOs, joint ventures and private equity deals. There is no minimum deal value so you can analyse all deals in detail, irrespective of the transaction size. All deal information is translated into English.
