Balasingham Balachandran

Balasingham Balachandran joined the Department in June 1999. Prior to this he taught finance and management accounting at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and a Master of Social Science and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Birmingham, UK. He has published research papers in European Financial Management, European Journal of Finance, Applied Financial Economics, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, Accounting and Finance, Finance Letters and Advances in Financial Education.

Research: Capital market research: Impact of the announcements of changes in dividend policy (dividend, share repurchases/buybacks, stock splits and bonus/stock dividend), rights issues, issues of convertible securities, assets sell-offs, spin-offs, restructuring, analysts' forecast, mergers and acquisitions; earnings management, information content and signaling; agency theory and free cash flow; corporate governance and ownership structure; Funds Performance; and students perceptions/expectations.
