Patty McNicholas

MMS with distinction Waikato, PhD Waikato

Patty McNicholas joined the department from the Universtiy of Waikato in January 2000 and spent four and a half years at the Gippsland campus. Patty was awarded her PhD from the University of Waikato, in 2003 for her thesis 'Indigenous women and the professions: Maori women's experiences in the accountancy profession of Aotearoa/New Zealand'. Subsequently she spent 18 months at Deakin University Melbourne campus before rejoining Monash University Clayton campus in February 2006.

Research:

Patty is interested in the critical and social analysis of accounting with a focus on accountancy and gender/ethnicity/culture/class issues. Related to this are issues concerning environmental accounting, sustainability reporting, stakeholder engagement, and social and environmental accountability. As her teaching is primarily in the area of financial accounting, more recently she has become involved in projects concerning accounting for income taxes and financial accounting issues.
