Associate Professor Alan Ramsay

Alan Ramsay teaches in financial accounting and financial statement analysis at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In 1993 Alan received the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in First Year Undergraduate Teaching. His major research interests are: empirical financial accounting research (current projects: Earnings and impression management around CEO changes, Do Australian companies manage earnings to meet simple earnings benchmarks?); capital markets research in accounting (current project: Firm size and the information content of earnings announcements: Australian evidence); accounting education research (current project: Development of deep approaches to learning among introductory accounting students).

Alan has published in a number of Australian and International refereed journals and is co-author of two textbooks: Financial Accounting - An Introduction and Accounting - An Introduction published by Pearson Education.

Research: Financial accounting, specifically differential reporting and the conceptual framework for general purpose financial reporting depreciation - especially allocation versus valuation approaches, accounting education and factors affecting student performance in first-year accounting.
