Professor Janek Ratnatunga

Professor Ratnatunga joined the Department as a professor in 1990, and has held the Chair in Business Accounting since 1993. Prior to joining the Department he held academic positions at The University of Melbourne and the University of Canberra in Australia; the Universities of Washington and Rhode Island in the USA, and worked in the profession as a chartered accountant with KPMG. Amongst the senior positions he has held at Monash are Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and the Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance. He is currently the editor of the Journal of Applied Management Accounting Research. His major research interests are on strategic cost management, entrepreneurship, financial accounting and financial modelling; and he has authored/co-authored twenty-three books and over 100 academic and professional papers in these areas. Professor Ratnatunga has also consulted to a wide variety of organisations in Australia and South-East Asia, especially in the areas of cost management systems and financial planning and analysis.
