On behalf of the academic and professional staff of the Department, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all and thank you for joining with us in celebrating academic excellence.
We all enjoy Award functions as they enable us to acknowledge the achievements of those who have dared to aspire and who have had the commitment to strive to attain those aspirations. Our high achieving students and graduates have given us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate academic excellence.
The success of our Accounting and Finance students is a great source of pride for the Department, for the Faculty of Business and Economics and the University. Recognition of the achievements of our students and graduates is also seen in the generous support from our industry and professional body sponsors. Thank you to our sponsors and also thank you to the academics, family and friends, who have inspired and supported these academic endeavours.
Congratulations to the Accounting and Finance students and graduates on your Excellence Award. The Department wishes you success on your journey ahead and hopes that this is just the beginning of an exciting and rewarding career.

Ms Brigitte Muir OAM
Brigitte became the first Australian woman to climb Mount Everest in 1997 and the first Australian, male or female, to climb the highest peak on each continent. From caving in high school to scaling the world’s highest peak, Brigitte’s life has been one of pushing the limits. She was a member of nine expeditions to 8000m high peaks, climbed on seven continents and crossed Australian and Antarctic deserts. In recent years, Brigitte has dedicated herself to sharing her experiences, leading custom designed trips for world expeditions, documentary making and leading fundraising treks for a women’s literacy program in Nepal.
In 1997 Brigitte was awarded an Australian Geographic Award for Excellence, in 1998 an Australia Day Council Australian Achiever Award and in 2000 was honoured with an Order of Australia Medal for Services to Mountaineering. She was awarded membership of the First Victorian Honour Roll of Women, Centenary of Federation, in 2001 and in 2003 received the Centenary of Federation Medal.
