Alternative entry pathways to Business and Economics degrees for students who do not meet Year 12 or equivalent admission requirements

General Information All applicants are required to satisfy the mathematics prerequisite (VCE units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 25 in Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics or interstate or overseas equivalent) for admission to courses.

Although successful completion of at least two units at university level is preferred, students with at least a distinction average in a relevant TAFE diploma or advanced diploma may apply. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grade or marks will not meet the admission requirements.

Normally four single units with at least a credit average are required to be competitive for selection. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. If undertaking single units at Monash University , students are advised to take the first-year units of their desired degree. Students should normally achieve at least a 60% average to be considered for admission.

Work Experience

Work experience is not a factor in selecting students for these courses.

Completed qualifications at Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma level are required. Students should normally achieve at least 75% to 80% average to be considered for admission. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grade or marks will not meet the admission requirements.

Applicants require a minimum of two units, although in normal circumstances this minimum alone is unlikely to be sufficient. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission.. Studies need to have been completed no more than five years prior to admission. Students should normally achieve at least a 60% (credit) average, although students who only complete the minimum number of units (two) may require higher grades.

Work Experience

Demonstrated work experience of a minimum of two years in a professional capacity related to the course can assist an application. Applicants are required to submit a work experience form, available from the faculty office.

Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grade or marks will not meet the admission requirements.

Additional units (above the minimum of two) may enhance the application. Studies completed more than 10 years prior to admission will not be considered for credit.

Advanced Standing

Some students may be eligible for advanced standing on the basis of previous study. Credit will only be given at the level at which it was achieved, and must be consistent with Business and Economics policies and degree rules. Units completed more than 10 years prior to admission will not be considered for credit.
