The Faculty of Business and Economics recognises the need for flexibility in dealing with cases where students are faced with issues beyond their control that may affect their study program.
Where a student in this situation has less than one semester's load to complete and is unable to complete their course of study he or she may apply to the course director to enrol in units equivalent in standard to those offered in their degree program, either:
- offered elsewhere in the faculty (the preferred option), or
- offered at another institution.
Where it is not possible for students to complete their degree using Monash units from another degree structure they may apply to undertake study at another institution. Monash University Course Structure Policy (see ‘Course Flexibility’) requires students enrolled at Monash who intend to study a unit at another institution, for which they intend to seek credit at Monash, to seek permission prior to enrolling in that unit.
The student's application must include details of the exceptional circumstances that prevent them from completing their course of study in the normal manner. When making a decision the course director will take into account these circumstances, relevant university and faculty policies, and the student's prior record.
