Monash Abroad policy

Purpose

This policy provides advice for students wishing to study overseas in a Monash Abroad host institution as part of their Faculty of Business and Economics course.

Scope

This policy applies to all undergraduate and graduate coursework students enrolled in programs managed by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Policy Statement

Students of the Faculty may consider applying for the Monash Abroad program. This program allows students to undertake one or two semesters of study at an overseas institution. Students wishing to study overseas must do so through this program - private arrangements cannot be made.

A student who wishes to apply to study abroad must:

  • have completed 48 credit points of their Monash course if they are an undergraduate student  or one year of study if they are a graduate student, and
  • achieved at least a credit average.

The Course Director or nominee, following advice from the relevant department where appropriate, must approve in writing all the units the student proposes to take at the host institution before the student submits an application to the host institution. Credit will be limited to those units approved. Students must provide comprehensive unit descriptions detailing syllabus, prescribed readings and assessment for the unit(s) they wish to study so the Course Director or nominee can make an assessment regarding the equivalence and suitability of units. This must be done on the approval form and attached to the Monash Abroad application form.

Approval will normally not be given to undertake the equivalent of specialised units for Australian professional accreditation.
