Faculty Guidelines on the Year-level of undergraduate elective units and advanced standing

In relation to the granting of credit for prior study:

• if the units have been completed at university first-year level or equivalent, or as part of either

• a Diploma in Business or Advanced Diploma in Business, or

• a Hong Kong Associate Degree in business, or

• a Singapore polytechnic business diploma,

  or equivalent, then specific and elective credits must be granted only at first-year level unless there is a minimum of four inter-related sequential units in a cognate discipline area related to business;

• the granting of credit at the second-year level for the TAFE, Hong Kong or Singapore diploma/advanced diploma/ associate degree programs should only be considered where it is clear that there is a minimum of four inter-related sequential units in a cognate discipline area related to business;

• the number of first-year level units including electives must not exceed 10 (60 credit points);

• a maximum of two non-specific elective units may be granted as credit at the first-year level;

• if the prior university study has been completed at second- or third-year level, the specific and elective credit(s) should be specified as second- or third-year accordingly;

• the number of specific and elective credits granted should be consistent with the rules of the degree into which the student is enrolled or wishes to transfer into;

• credit decisions recognise the Faculty policy that for the award of an undergraduate single- or double-degree, a student must have undertaken at least 8 units (48 credit points) from the degree family in which the degree is awarded, and a minimum of 12 units (72 credit points) from courses offered by Monash University;

• the total credit granted towards any one degree must not exceed 96 credit points.
