Preliminary assessment - PhD and MPhil programs

Before going through the formal application process our Department is required to assess your eligibility for entrance into the PhD program.  In order to begin this process, please fill in the Preliminary Assessment Form [link to BLT PhD Prelim app form.doc]. In addition please provide the following information to the Department’s PhD Program Coordinator:

1. Your preliminary research proposal which provides us with an idea of your research topic, the motivation for conducting this research, some background to the research (literature review), research questions and/or hypotheses, and research methods to be used (approximately 5 pages);
2. Your detailed curriculum vitae (CV).
3. Your GPA or average mark for your undergraduate degree(s) plus certified copy of your academic transcripts including abstract of research report/minor thesis, examiners reports and percentage of the course that is research.
4. Your GPA or average mark for your postgraduate degree(s) plus certified copy of your academic transcripts including abstract of research report/minor or major thesis, examiners reports and percentage of the course that is research.
5. Your overall ranking within each course e.g. ranked fifth out of 100 students in your course.
6. Details of any other research activity you have engaged in during your undergraduate or postgraduate degree or in a work environment including:
   • abstract
   • % of contribution
   • cover page of publication
   • evidence indicating whether it is a referred publication
7. Details of your research publications (for example conference papers, journal papers, etc.):
   • abstract
   • % of contribution
   • cover page of publication
   • evidence indicating whether it is a referred publication
8. Details of any scholarships or prizes (if any)
9. If English is not your first language, details of any Academic English language test results (.doc 29kb), for example IELTS or TOEFL.
10. Departmental Referee Reports – submit two Referee Reports (.doc 238kb).
