Christopher Arup

Professor, Business Law and Taxation

Prior to joining Monash, Chris Arup worked at La Trobe University and Victoria University. He was Head of the Law School at both institutions. He has had visiting appointments at the Universities of Durham, Chicago, Warwick and Sussex.

Chris has undertaken consultancy and project work for a wide range of organisations. They include the OECD, the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, the Victorian WorkCover Authority, the New South Wales Professional Standards Council, the Victorian Auditor-General and the Brotherhood of St. Laurence. He has organised several major international conferences. He has held ARC Large and Small Grants.

Research

His main areas of research and teaching are intellectual property, international trade law, trade in services, trade practices law and labour law. His work is inter-disciplinary and he has long-term experience in regulatory studies and socio-legal studies.

Chris supervises higher degrees by research including the PhD and welcomes inquiries from those interested in candidature in his fields of expertise.

Publications

His major works include two monographs with Cambridge University Press, Innovation, Law and Policy, and The New World Trade Organization Agreements. He is co-editor of several collections, including Labour Law and Labour Market Regulation, and For the Public Good: Pro Bono Law and the Legal Profession in Australia. Chris is co-editor of the CUP international monograph series, Studies in Law and Society.
