Mathews was the first Business Law and Taxation staff member appointed at Monash University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur in July 1998.
Mathews won the Best Lecturer Award in 2003 and 2004, the Vice-Chancellor's Award in 2003, and was a co-winner of the Dean's Excellence in Teaching Awards in 2004.
Mathews is currently supervising the department's first honours student at Monash University Malaysia.
Teaching
Mathews teaches business law, international trade law and information technology law.
Research
Mathews currently holds two Monash University Malaysia research grants to conduct research into e-commerce and personal data protection, and the new Malaysian initiatives into 'whistleblowing' and their possible impact on the Malaysian corporate sector.
