Shanthy Rachagan joined Monash in 1999 as a lecturer and teaches Malaysian Company Law, Finance Law and Business Law.
She is the Director of Student Affairs, a position which forms part of the Executive Committee of the School of Business and Information Technology at Monash University Malaysia.
Shanthy is working on her PhD at Monash Law School in the area of corporate law and in particular minority shareholders.
Before joining Monash University Malaysia, she was a senior lecturer for the RMIT University program twinned with Metropolitan College, Malaysia.
Shanthy is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and was engaged in both litigation and corporate conveyancing work in legal practice before moving to an academic career.
Shanthy is also presently involved in giving legal advice to several NGOs in Malaysia.
Teaching
Shanthy teaches Malaysian company law and finance law.
Research
Her principal research interest is in corporate law and in particular the law of agency and minority shareholders' remedies.
Recent publications and presentations
As an academic, she has researched and published articles and presented papers at conferences, including academic and industry seminars in the area of banking law.
She has completed a book "Principles of Company Law in Malaysia", co-authored with Dr Anil Joshi (Lecturer, Metropolitan College, Malaysia) and Janine Pascoe (Business Law and Taxation, Clayton), to be published by the Malayan Law Journal Bhd in 2002.
