Wayne Gumley

Wayne commenced his career as a solicitor in general practice in regional Victoria, where he gained a wide range experience in commercial, property and local government law. Wayne then took a position with the Australian Government Solicitor's Office in Melbourne where he carried out a wide range of litigation and advising on administrative law and revenue law and reached the position of Principal Legal Officer.

He then joined the former School of Banking and Finance at Caulfield campus of Monash University to lecture in taxation and commercial law.

Since joining Monash Wayne has maintained strong links with industry and including several temporary periods of employment as a visiting consultant to law firm McKimmie Matthews of Calgary, Canada, as Tax Training Manager with chartered accountants KPMG Peat Marwick in Melbourne, and later with Pitcher Partners in Melbourne.

Teaching

At Monash Wayne has taught a wide range of taxation and commercial law units at undergraduate and graduate level. Currently, his main teaching responsibilities are Environmental Law for Business, Corporate Environmental Responsibility, and Risk Control and the Law. In the Department of Business Law and Taxation, Wayne has been the Director of the Graduate Tax program, as well as Deputy Head of Department at Caulfield campus. He is currently a member of the Faculty of Business and Economics Graduate Operations Committee.

Research

Wayne’s research interests include administrative law, taxation law and ecological tax reform, environmental law and corporate environmental responsibility. Wayne is a member of the National Environmental Law Association (NELA) an is currently the National Editor of the NELA journal, the National Environmental Law Review.
