Workplace and Corporate Law Research Group
The Workplace and Corporate Law Research Group (WCLRG) is a research concentration within the Department of Business Law & Taxation, Faculty of Business & Economics, at Monash University. It has been in operation since March 2008, having previously operated as the Corporate Law and Accountability Research Group (CLARG) since November 2005.
WCLRG provides a focus for collaborative research within the department in the fields of workplace relations and employment law, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and the intersections between labour law and corporate law. It also fosters the development of research projects in these areas between the department's academics and external research partners.
Group objectives
- to undertake research on all aspects of workplace relations law, including employment law, labour relations law, equal opportunity and occupational health and safety, and broader aspects of labour market regulation;
- to undertake research in relation to corporate law, corporate governance, and the accountability of corporations to shareholders and other stakeholders, such as creditors, employees, consumers, the environment and tort victims;
- to undertake research on the interaction between labour law and corporate law, and between these areas of the law and others including taxation law, trade practices law and environmental law;
- to undertake comparative research into overseas models of labour law, labour market regulation, corporate regulation and corporate accountability;
- to undertake cross-disciplinary research with other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, including researchers exploring governance, accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing and other approaches to labour market and/or corporate regulation issues;
- to undertake research projects on issues relating to labour market and/or corporate regulation in conjunction with Monash and external research partners, including business groups, government agencies, legal firms and academic institutions;
- to hold internal and external seminars, workshops and conferences examining the above issues;
- to publish the products of the above research initiatives in working papers, journals, books and other forms;
- through the above initiatives, to provide a platform for obtaining competitive research grants and contract research income in the Department of Business Law and Taxation, and attracting research higher degree students to the Department.
