Can legal regulation shape "good" corporate behaviour?

BLT participants: Dr Gerald Acquaah-Gaisie, Paula Darvas, Alice de Jonge, Dr George Gilligan, Wayne Gumley, Associate Professor Vince Morabito, Phillip Lipton, Anne O'Rourke, Chenxia Shi, Michelle Welsh

Outline

This project explores whether legal regulation is necessary, or effective, to prevent corporate excess and wrongdoing, including approaches based on concepts of corporate crime, misconduct and accountability (Gerald Acquaah-Gaisie and George Gilligan have carried out extensive work in these fields).

BLT researchers are interested in engaging with other disciplines and approaches to promoting higher standards of accountability to shareholders and other corporate stakeholders, including:

  • "triple bottom line" reporting (accounting)
  • ethical investment (finance/superannuation)
  • consumer preferences based on "good" corporate reputation (marketing)
  • managerial strategies
  • voluntary/self-regulation by business

Current and proposed activities
