2013 Retail Thought Leadership: Loyalty Beyond the Card
Annual Seminar
In today's dynamic retail environment, there has been a significant shift toward emerging channels such as online, mobile and social media. With this growing number of research tools available to consumers, shoppers are increasingly searching for better value from Australian and global retailers. As such, fostering customer loyalty is becoming more challenging in a digital landscape, with loyalty cards alone no longer sufficient.
Consumer research suggests that consumers will carry five plastic cards on average in their wallet. Since debit and credit cards will account for a least two of the available five 'slots', the battle amongst organisations and loyalty aggregators to ensure that their program is one of the three is fierce and will only become more so. Therefore, the challenge for retailers and property owners now becomes creating loyalty programs that develop meaningful relationships with customers through personalised and memorable experiences.
This year's annual Retail Thought Leadership research project focuses on loyalty beyond the card, exploring drivers of loyalty, customer expectations and global best practice.
