Health Economics PhD Opportunity

The Centre for Health Economics at Monash University, Australia, is pleased to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals to undertake a PhD in health economics.
Scholarships are available, as is the possibility of Research Assistant work and Teaching to top up any funding, all subject to eligibility requirements.

The PhD is offered in the following broad areas:

Population Health and Health Systems
Health Outcome Measurement

Economic Evaluation and Modelling

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree at upper second or 1st class (or equivalent) in economics or closely related subject;
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and writing skills.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to health economics;
  • Work experience in health economics and/or policy issues relating to obesity or inequalities in health;
  • Demonstrated interest in health economics and/or public health;
  • Relevant academic publications.

TheCentre for Health Economics has been at the forefront of health economics teaching and research in Australia for 15 years. As one of the largest concentrations of senior health economists in Australia, it has a strong track record of health economics research, teaching and community service.  The Centre has close research links to the Departments of Econometrics, Economics and Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine and co-supervision is possible.  

The Centre also has excellent international links and a growing PhD program with excellent dedicated facilities.  Those interested in quantitative methods are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those interested in projects related to labour force participation and health issues, as we have excellent links to the Institute for Safety, Compensation and Recovery Research. 

Applications should consist of a covering letter stating why you wish to do a PhD in this area at Monash University, and why you feel you are suitable, together with a full CV, including details of any research experience, prizes or outstanding achievements, as well as transcripts of academic results. The CV should include the names of two or three referees, one of whom should have good knowledge of your
academic performance.
