Preety joined the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) as a Research Fellow in July 2006. Prior to her appointment at CHE, Preety was a PhD candidate and an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University. She also comes with seven years industry experience as a Research Officer in the Central Bank of Mauritius.  

 

Preety received her doctorate from Monash University in 2008 for her thesis entitled Recreational Drug Consumption in Australia: An Econometric Analysis. She also has a Masters of Science (Honours) in Applied Economics from University of Mauritius and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Statistics from Delhi University. She is currently an external affiliate to Health Econometrics and Data Group (HEDG), University of York.

 

Her research interest includes applied economic and microeconometric models with applications in health and recreational drugs. At CHE, she is particularly involved in a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) project on the economic modelling of the Australian health care system. She is working in various areas including health and health care service utilisation, private health insurance, health expenditure, and recreational drug consumption.
