Honours Courses in Econometrics

Students who perform well in the first three years of the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics degree at Clayton are invited to do an honours year, with a specialization in econometrics and business statistics. Students may also complete a joint honours program in Econometrics and Finance or in Econometrics and Economics.

Students in the Bachelor of Business at Caulfield who have completed the Econometrics major with at least a Credit average may also be eligible for the honours program.

Advantages of an honours year

The honours year:

  • further sharpens quantitative and analytical skills,
  • enhances career opportunities, with some public sector organizations, in particular, recruiting only honours graduates;
  • provides the foundation for further study at the Masters and PhD level, including at international universities.

Scholarships and Cadetships

Scholarships are available for the top honours students. Certain public sector organizations also award Cadetships to talented third-year students, which comprise both a scholarship for the honours year and guaranteed employment after graduation.

Making an application

Students wishing to undertake fourth-year honours in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics must apply to, and have their enrolment approved by, the Head of the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics. Entry requirements and course structures are given in the Handbook entry for Bachelor of Commerce (Honours).
