Mita specialises in the areas of Industrial Organisation, International Economics and Asian Economies. Specific research interests include industrial performance for developed and developing countries, tourism, child labor, citation index and information and communication technology. Her teaching interests include Industrial Organisation, Microeconomics and International Economics. Her publications include academic papers to the journals such as International Journal of Industrial Organisation, Review of Industrial Organisation, Journal of Legal Studies, Applied Economics, Empirica, Small Business Economics, Australian Economic Papers. She has secured prestigious national and international grants including ARC Discovery Grant. She has held visiting positions in overseas institutions viz., the University of Doshisha (Japan), University of East Anglia (UK), OECD (France) and in Australia at the Curtin University of Technology and Australian National University
