His research interests revolve around open economy macroeconomics with particular attention to the implications of interaction between financial and real sectors for foreign investment and its composition between direct (FDI) and foreign portfolio investment (FPI). Related themes include the composition of cross-border capital movements, productivity in banking and errors and omissions in balance of payments reporting. Previous appointments include Visiting Professorships at the Universities of Konstanz, Munich and Renmin University of China, External Examiner at the University of Mauritius.  He is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Research:

Professor Fausten's research interests lie in the area of open economy macroeconomics with particular emphasis on international capital movements and foreign direct investment. Specific topics have included balance of payments and exchange rate adjustment, policy formation in open economies, determinants and composition of cross-border investment flows, financial development and banking productivity in developing countries and transition economies.
