Stephen joined Monash University after working several years at the World Bank to identify policies that may stimulate economic growth in developing countries. A monetary and financial economist by training, he is particularly focussed on neutralising the effects of global financial crises, possibly through derivatives markets.  Other interests include uncovering the causes of and constraints to economic and financial development, and researching the effects of the division of labour and specialisation in poor countries.
