Master of Business (Accounting)

This 16-unit course is designed to enhance and develop the knowledge and skills of those with an accounting or finance related undergraduate degree, who may already be working in public practice and industry. It has a flexible structure which enables you to construct a program that best suits your career.
This program is aimed at accounting graduates in public practice, industry and academia. The course includes advanced level studies in financial and managerial accounting, auditing, corporate and international finance, and investments. Students also gain insight into research methodologies and techniques which extend and support their learning and expose them to the contemporary issues and problems confronting modern accountants and finance specialists.
Exit points are also available from the degree through the:
- Graduate Certificate in Business (after 4 units), or
- Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting upon completion of eight 5000-level units including no more than four CPA units

| Entry requirements |
Applicants need to have completed one of the following:
-
an average grade of credit (60%) or above in a bachelor degree with a major in accounting, banking, or finance; OR
-
an overseas qualification deemed by the Australian Education International National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR) as being equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree, with at least a credit (60%)average; OR
-
Students who have completed the Master of Practising Accounting, Master of Professional Accounting, Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting, with at least a credit (60%) average, OR
-
an honours degree in accounting from Monash university may also apply.

Students must also complete 10 units at 5000-level offered by the Department of Accounting and Finance including at least two of the following:
- AFF5040 Advanced investments
- AFF5070 Strategic policy and entrepreneurship
- AFF5080 Business accounting II: strategic issues
- AFF5090 Financial reporting and statement analysis
- AFF5280 Institutional asset and liability management

| Elective units |
Students must complete four graduate units offered by any department in the Faculty of Business and Economics. It is recommended that students consult with the course coordinator to ensure their elective units form a coherent study program. |
| CPA Accreditation |
Students who are associate members of CPA Australia are permitted to enrol in units that are offered in conjunction with CPA Australia, provided they also enrol in the equivalent CPA segment with CPA Australia. |
