Susan Mayson
Dr Susan Mayson's work-life research focuses on work-life balance in small organisations. With colleague, Professor Rowena Barrett, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, she is investigating women's access to work-life flexibilities in small firms and women's access to maternity leave (paid and unpaid) in small firms. While we know much about women's access to work-life flexibilities in large, often well resourced organisations, work-life balance and access to work-life flexible work practices in small firms is an area that is under-researched. Given the importance of small firms to the Australian economy, they make up 96% of Australian private sector, employ 2.3 million people and 40% of the people employed in small business are women, this area of research offers much to our knowledge of work-life practices in Australian organisations.
