Graduate Units 2010

To assist in selecting elective units that will complement the course of study, the graduate units taught in the department have been grouped into discipline areas. Each course has mandatory core units which have to be completed. Electives may be chosen to complement the course, or alternatively, selected across a range of disciplines.

It is important to remember:

  • All elective choices must meet overall course objectives and are subject to Course Director approval
  • The interest areas are a guide only and not prescriptive to any particular program or course offered in the Department

Unit prerequisites

Students will need to ensure that unit prerequisites are taken into account when planning study progression.  Full descriptions, including prerequisite requirements, are published in Monash University's Postgraduate Handbook.

Research pathway

Students enrolled in a Masters course may choose to enrol in the 4-unit Research report (20,000 words) elective option. The Research report elective option consists of a three unit combination totalling 24 credit points, and comprises the following units:

  • MGX5000 Introductory management research methods (6 credit points)
  • MGX5901 Research report (introduction) (6 credit points)
  • MGX5900 Research report (12 credit points)

The prerequisite for MGX5901 Research report (introduction) and MGX5900 Research report is completion of a minimum of four units and an achievement of distinction-level average in completed graduate units. The co-requisite for MGX5901 Research report (introduction) is MGX5000 Introductory management research methods. The prerequisite for MGX5900 Research report is MGX5000 Introductory management research methods and MGX5901 Research report (introduction). The Research report option may provide students with a pathway to a PhD. Students intending to enrol in the 4-unit Research report elective option should discuss this at the commencement of their studies with their Course Director.
