Information for international students

International students should check the Monash Postgraduate Course Guide for International Students 2010 or visit the International Students' page. The guide contains important information regarding Australian Government requirements and conditions for study in Australia, living costs, course fees, health insurance, working while you study, work rights for your husband or wife and schooling for your children.

Information about visa applications can be obtained from www.immi.gov.au/students/index.htm and www.dfat.gov.au/missions/ Your application for a student visa will be assessed according to your Assessment Level. Your Assessment Level is determined by the passport you hold and the education sector for which you are seeking a student Visa. Note that the education subclass is 574 for masters/doctorates.

Credit for prior learning

Credit for 'Recognised Prior Learning' will affect the duration of your course and therefore the duration of your visa. Where credit is granted, you must still maintain a full-time enrolment load.

Minimum level of English requirements

Unless English is your first language, the English requirement for all Department of Management graduate courses is:

  • IELTS - of 7.0 with no individual band score less than 6.5, OR
  • TOEFL - minimum test score of 600 with a Test of Written English score of at least 5 or a minimum test score of 250 in the computer-based TOEFL with an Essay Rating of at least 5.  Internet based TOEFL overall 100, writing 24+, no score lower than 20.

Teaching resources

This Faculty conducts its teaching via lectures, tutorials and seminars. All campuses have well equipped computer laboratories for students. The Monash University Library is one of Australia’s major research libraries. It contains over 2.6 million items and provides access to thousands more resources via electronic networks.

Assessment

Assessment may include a range of methods, such as formal end of semester examinations, continuous assessment throughout the semester, written assignments/essays, group assignments, presentations, computer-based assignments, tests, etc. Students will be advised of the particular method(s) to be used at the commencement of their study in each unit.
