Potential research projects
Topic: Engaging communities in the transition to Water Sensitive cities
Supervisors: Dr Fiona Newton and Dr Kelly Fielding, University of Queensland.
Outline of Project: Your PhD will be part of a project that aims to benchmark current levels of water literacy in Australia and identify and evaluate community-friendly strategies to promote more sustainable urban water management. Your project will focus on the latter aim. For further details go to PhD Scholarship opportunity
Topic: Virtual Gift-giving
Supervisors: Dr Jan Brace-Govan and Dr Stephen Saunders
Outline of Project: While there is extensive literature on gift-giving there is very little on virtual gifts. Virtual gifts are gifts that are given through the internet (virtual cards, virtual presents) that may or may not have an offline equivalent. What we're interested in researching is the value of the gift for the recipient (social capital value, aesthetic or functional value). We think this would make a useful topic for a PhD student that is interested in gift-giving, sharing etc. (Russell Belk is the lead author in this area).
