Sessional teaching opportunities - conditions and rates of pay

Sessional academic staff rates

1. Tutors are normally engaged for a number of one hour tutorials with a 1/2 hour student consultation period for each tutorial group. Tutors may be engaged for one or more units.
2. The consultation rate paid is 1/2 hour per tutorial group. Tutors must be available on campus for student consultation for each individual tutorial group.
3. Where you conduct more than one tutorial per week per unit, the first tutorial is paid at the 'First Tutorial' rate, while second and subsequent tutorials are paid at the 'Repeat Tutorial' rate.
4. Preparation and marking of assignments is included in the pay rate for tutorials.
5. Exam marking claims are processed on a separate time sheet and will only be paid upon signed approval of the unit leader and the Head of Department. The pay rate below reflects the standard marking speed of four papers per hour.
6. 'Other Activity' includes result collation, exam supervision.
7. If you are claiming for multiple units, please complete a separate Sessional Staff Time Sheet for each unit and submit to supervisor for approval.
8. If you claim for hours that are not in your normal workload it must be identified to and authorised, in advance, by your unit leader and by the Head of Department.
9. Unit leaders to develop workload plans and to submit them to the Head of Department.
