History
Rob Hunt joined Bendigo Building Society in 1973. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 1988 – when the Society had a market capitalisation of $50 million (32 branches & 250 staff) – and was appointed Managing Director in 1990. In July 1995 the Bendigo undertook bank conversion.
Since Rob’s appointment as Managing Director, the Bendigo has undertaken a number of mergers and acquisitions of like and complementary structures. Rob has guided the Bendigo through many innovations in development of strategy as a regional and community banking organisation and is architect of Community Bank® and other Community Enterprise initiatives. Bendigo and Adelaide Banking Group now has a market capitalisation of approximately $3+ billion (400+ branches, 4000+ staff – plus 1000 staff in Community Banks – and over $45 billion in assets under management).
Rob has been instrumental in developing a range of community-owned enterprise models utilised by communities across Australia to help provide solutions to key infrastructure and essential services through a commercial framework. These Community Enterprises provide communities with a framework, the cashflow, capacity and flexibility to address new economy opportunities.
