Admission to the Department of Marketing Honours Program

Only the most capable students will be accepted into the Honours Course. Admission is not automatic. Selection will be made on merit, based on the academic skills of the applicant, the capacity of the Department to provide suitable supervision, and the expectation that the applicant will complete the course at a high standard and within the allotted time. Applications will be invited to an interview before selection.

To be considered applicants must have:

  • completed a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Business pass degree or an equivalent degree from a recognised University or Institute;
  • completed a major in marketing (normally 8 units) as part of that degree; or subjects deemed to be equivalent;
  • successfully completed at least one unit in statistics or econometrics as part of the undergraduate degree (NOTE: Some introductory quantitative subjects may not be acceptable for this purpose);

  • obtained at least a 70% average during the last two levels of undergraduate studies;
  • demonstrated the ability to work at the H1 (80+) level or above, normally by gaining two or more HDs (non-Marketing subjects also qualify);

Statement of Interest

The application for Honours in Marketing requires a written Statement of Interest.

  • The Statement is to be no longer than one page (in 12pt font with 2cm margins all round).
  • The first half answers the question "Why is Honours in Marketing of interest to you?"
    • Another way of stating this is to consider what you believe you would gain from an intensive focus on one area of marketing through your thesis (equivalent to 4 units) and the 4 taught units that cover various aspects of marketing research.
  • The second half of the page describes the topic that you would like to address in your thesis. If you do not have a specific topic then you could describe a topic that you particularly enjoyed working on as an undergraduate.
  • Topic ideas for Honours Projects 2010
