Honours in Marketing - B.Bus(Hons) and B.Com(Hons)

The Department of Marketing offers a one-year course (or a two year part time course) leading to the award of a Bachelor of Business (Honours) or the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours).

The Honours Course is an advanced undergraduate degree that provides graduates with an opportunity to gain further insights into particular areas of research and academic interest. Participation in Honours develops technical and analytical skills, reinforces critical and independent thinking, and addresses problems from a broader intellectual perspective. Honours graduates enjoy both prestige and improved employments prospects within their selected field of interest.

The Honours Course provides a structured introduction to the conduct of research in Marketing and is particularly useful for students who are considering further study at the higher degree level, or who wish to develop specific research competencies for industry. Students who complete the course with a First Class Honours grade are eligible to apply for the M.Phil./Ph.D. program and Postgraduate scholarships. Students who complete the Honours Course may be eligible to complete a coursework Master of Marketing degree with an additional 8 units of study.

Course Vision

The Course aims to produce graduates who have excellent conceptual, practical and research skills in Marketing that will be highly prized in both academic and industry circles.

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide:

  • an advanced level of study for students seeking in-depth knowledge of the Marketing discipline;
  • the opportunity to engage in advanced critical thinking and analysis;
  • the opportunity to explore an academic interest in depth; and
  • a pathway to academic or industry research careers.

On completion of the Bachelor of Business (Honours) or Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) course students should have:

  • specialist expertise in an area sought after by employers;
  • comprehensive and relevant business-related research skills;
  • the skills to undertake supported independent research;
  • the capacity to engage in critical, logical and independent thinking;
  • enhanced their communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • created a pathway for a career in research.
