International Marketing Study Program 2002

London

13 January 2002

After a long flight from Hong Kong & a 4 hour transit in Paris the last thing we needed was to arrive in Manchester with no baggage. Thanks to a strike in Paris, that was exactly what happened.

Several phone calls later and still no sign of the whereabouts of our suitcases, we bolted off to the local shops to find some much needed clothes. This all needed to be done in the space of about 10 minutes before closing time! Primark was awash with frazzled Monash students trying desperately to find anything warm. This proved to be quite a challenge for the fashion conscious.

Tired from our long journey we tucked into a traditional pub meal. Whilst the majority of us went to sleep off our jetlag, some found some energy to discover the Manchester night life. Kylie Minogue is truly a global brand.

After visiting with Manchester United (in our tracksuits!!!) We transferred to Coventry. Stuck on the outskirts of town we discovered no signs of a night life. Instead we found our amusement running havoc up and down the aisles of the local ASDA supermarket with kiddie shopping trolleys in tow.

LONDON!!!

The excitement of London saw the group split up in many directions. Some visited with friends while others headed for tourist attractions and nightclubs.

The highlight for many, was our trip to the soccer, to see Fulham beat Middlesborough 2,1, but not before a regulation pre-match trip to the local pub. Outnumbered 50 to 1 the girls found themselves to be the main attraction, even though our dress resembled that of Frosty the Snowman.

Night time activities included theatre outings, numerous trips to The Ministry Of Sound, a taste test of the pubs and clubs in Soho and also all night mayhem and partying at Club 532 a.k.a. Eliza and Yu Lin's hotel room!

The venture to a recommended club in Soho was marred by the colourful sign out front asking for witnesses to a recent stabbing. For some strange reason the group decided not to go… but don't worry, they soon found a highly suitable replacement.

We could have spent our entire trip in London and still not managed to see everything. It was sad to say goodbye but France here we come!
