International Marketing Study Program 2003

L'oreal visit

20 January 2003

We began our visit at L'Oreal's award winning factory in Aulnay, where following morning tea, Nicole briefly introduced us to the company, the products, and the operations at that particular site. After this Nicole Plaiien and Marie-Jose Thomas took us on a tour of the three factory divisions, where we observed the process involved in the packaging of products such as Ambre Solaire and Garnier Nutrisse. Of particular interest was how the factory had been creatively designed to welcome and impress visitors with its environmentally and employee friendly working conditions. After a quick refreshment or two we then travelled to the L'Oreal Headquarters in Clichy. Here we were warmly greeted and briefed by L'Oreal's Zone Director, Alain Evrard, who highlighted the key success factors of the company. Elisabeth then spoke about her experience in marketing at L'Oreal, and impressed us with a detailed presentation on the process involved in the launch of Garnier Nutrisse Hair Colour in India. Beatrice, from the Human Resources department then introduced us to "L'Oreality", which encompasses the corporate culture at L'Oreal, the opportunities and rewards to be gained, and what they look for in potential employees. We finished off our visit with beautifully presented cocktails and the opportunity to discuss matters of interest with the senior managers, and further our understanding of what it takes to be a globally successful company.
