International Marketing Study Program 2004
Liverpool
8 January 2004
We arrived jet lagged at the Thistle Hotel in Manchester on Wed night Jan 7 after travelling and waiting in airports for a good 15 hours. After a greatly needed night's sleep we had our first English beans on toast breakfast on Thursday morning and jumped on a bus for Liverpool. After visiting the Official Beatles exhibition we went on a magical mystery bus tour visiting all the significant Beatles sites such as Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, the Cavern, and many of the band members' houses. Back in Manchester the whole grouped taxied it to the famous Curry Mile for dinner. On Friday after our day visits to Manchester United and Red Cinema some people had a quiet night in, while some went to test out the Manchester night life. And test we did - visiting a number of different bar and club strips lining up to be judged not by ‘what we wear, but how we wear it' and dancing the night away. Saturday was a recovery day and of course another shopping opportunity at the Trafford Centre. Sunday we had a rare sleep in and prepared to wear the most pieces of clothing layers so far for the big game - that is Manchester United versus Newcastle United at Old Trafford. The atmosphere at the ground was amazing - it was fantastic to have the opportunity to experience a Man U game, and get a feel for the product and its sponsorship partners that was explained to us at the Friday company visit. The crowd sang and cheered in unison, but despite much encouragement, the result was a nil all draw - not surprising I guess when 2 top teams battle it out for victory in the Theatre of Dreams! Thanks so much to Peter Draper and Debbie for this once in a life time opportunity. We said a final farewell to our bus driver ‘Phil' and headed off to the bright lights of London.
London
Oh Yes, London here we come... besides the wet and rainy weather we were not discouraged to explore and be adventurous given there was only one day to really see London. There was a rush to see the major sites, and experience the cuisine and entertainment of London. From Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace to London Bridge, Oxford Street, and any of the many musicals showing that night. London is really a place of variety especially when it comes to shopping during the sales!!! And what a place to be…..exquisite breathtaking Harrods department store to British clothing designer brand names such as Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Burberry. Really London was a great place…and many of us will look forward to returning to this great city when we are travelling for leisure!!
