International Marketing Study Program 2007

New York

25th - 28th January 2007

After an 8 hour plane trip from Paris to New York, we tried our very best to be cheerful and alert for the US immigration officers. But unfortunately this did not work for two of our group members, who were stopped and questioned about their intentions of visiting the US. The rest of the group waited for one hour before the two boys were released and finally allowed to enter the country!! From the airport, we went straight to the hotel, but quickly decided that no time should be wasted when in New York City. Many of us went straight out to dinner, since American Airlines only fed us Oreos, Pringles and Toblerone bars on the plane (the perfect introduction to American cuisine!). After dinner, some of the group went to watch an NBA game at Madison Square Garden between New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns.

Our second day in New York City was spent visiting MTV in Times Square- one of the most memorable visits of the trip! After our day at MTV, the Basketball fans of the group went to another NBA game - this time between Miami Heat and the Knicks. The rest of the group slit for dinner at various restaurants around the city and the keen night-clubbers headed for the infamous Meat Packers District afterwards – some of which stayed out all night!

On the third day in New York, almost the entire MIMSP group (those who didn’t come really missed out!) went to visit the Woodbury Common Premium Factory Outlets. A trip definitely worthwhile and recommended by all who attended, and, as expected, a lot of money was spent and credit cards maxed (lucky the trip was nearing its end!). Exhausted from the search for bargains, the night was kept low key by many students. However, the Forest Gump fans of the group went to visit the Bubba Gump Restaurant which was featured in themovie. The following day was spent seeing some of the key sights of New York City – the Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Ground Zero.

The final dinner for New York and the MIMSP 2007 was held at the Red Rock Roadhouse in the Upper West Side. It was a typical New York diner with pool tables and a large bar. After many final photos and drinks, some of us decided to call it a night while others went out to the Red Rock Bar, where the movie Coyote Ugly was filmed. Those that enjoyed the Meat Packers District the first time headed back for more fun afterwards!

It was very hard to say goodbye to such an exciting and amazing city like New York, with its unique Times Square and the touching memorials of ground zero. It was also difficult to say goodbye to some of our group members who were staying on in New York. To sum up the experience, many of us bought t-shirts to wear at home which feature the famous slogan:

I Love New York
