Modes of study

On campus

Most core units in the graduate programs are taught on campus in the evening. Weekly lectures are conducted throughout the 13 weeks of each semester usually between 5pm and 10pm.

Intensive teaching blocks
Five day intensive teaching block units are from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday at Caulfield Campus.

Intensive Split blocks
Units delivered in intensive split blocks are taught over a five to six day period, usually 8am to 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays with a two to four week period between each session.

Off campus

Online
Master of Marketing Online is offered off campus - online. The online mode utilises a full range of media and computer technologies, including the internet and virtual tutorials where students chat with each other and their tutor, use email, online library facilities, print guides and CD-ROM. Students lodge their assignments electronically but will be required to attend an examination centre to sit their final examination for the unit.

Off campus learning (Distance education)
A small number of units can be taken off campus using print based materials combined with electronic communications, either via the internet or email or a combination of media.

Entry requirements

The Master of Marketing is offered in a number of different ways for both early career marketers, as well as for career marketing professionals so that applicants at different stages of their career development are able to focus on a program which meets their individual needs.

Early career marketers
Applicants who are in the early stages of their career in Marketing may enter the Master of Marketing (course code 3802) straight from their undergraduate degree. Applicants must

  • hold an undergraduate degree in marketing or a major in marketing or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution; and
  • have achieved an average grade of credit or above (some business experience is preferred)

This course is offered on campus at Caulfield.

Career marketing professionals

Applicants, who have already commenced a career in marketing who have relevant business experience, have a generalist degree and now want to focus on building their strengths in marketing through advanced studies, may enter the Master of Marketing (course code 2276) with the following requirements. Applicants must

  • hold an undergraduate degree in another discipline from a recognised tertiary institution; and
  • have two years relevant full-time business experience.

This course is offered on campus at Caulfield. From 2007 the course was expanded to provide an opportunity for students to follow a number of specialisations and eventually graduate with a specialisation in a number of different areas of study. These include Marketing, International Marketing,Interactive marketing, Relationship Marketing and Retailing. Applicants who have already commenced a career in marketing but wish to study off campus may enter the Master of Marketing Online (course code 3810) with the following requirements:

  • hold an undergraduate degree in another discipline from a recognised tertiary institution; and
  • have two years relevant full-time business experience.

This course is offered off campus with online delivery from Caulfield campus.

Executive Certificate
This course has been designed for applicants with extensive business experience, without an undergraduate qualification. Applicants do not require an undergraduate degree but must have the following:

  • a minimum of six years relevant full-time employment experience, which can include: being either an owner/manager for at least three years or being in a management or supervisory position;
  • have administered expenditure in excess of $500,000 per annum for at least three years; and
  • have employer recommendation (or if selfemployed, provide suitable references).
