Induction Program and Introduction Scheme 2004

Starting a new job is often a daunting experience and a university the size of Monash is no exception. In an effort to make an easier and more effective transition for new Faculty employees, the Equity and Access Committee sponsored an Introduction Scheme and the Human Resources Unit piloted the program in 2003 along with a Faculty-specific Induction Program.

Due to the success of the 2003 pilot program, the two initiatives have been incorporated as an annual event for 2004 and beyond which will be coordinated by the Human Resources Unit. To this end, the joint program was conducted with 25 new staff participating.

The Introduction Scheme matches new employees with an experienced Monash staff member who will introduce them to various aspects of faculty and university life such as key systems, processes and relevant networks. The expectation is that new employees will meet with their ‘guide’ up to five times in a six month period while the new employee is settling into their new working environment.

The Dean, Professor Gill Palmer thanked the Human Resources Unit and presenters for their involvement in the program and the Equity and Access Committee for their continued funding of the scheme.

Professor Palmer said, “It was an excellent initiative of great value in the task we have of improving communications across many of our locations and areas. And ensuring that our excellent newcomers have a really good induction and introduction to their new organisation.”
