Finance professor named president of Asian Finance Association

Professor Mohamed Ariff, head of the Finance Discipline in the Department of Accounting and Finance has been elected president of the Asian Finance Association (AsianFA) until 2006.

The AsianFA is the consolidated society of finance professionals who were members of the 15 year old Asia Pacific Finance Association and the Pacific Basin Financial Management Association.

The association sponsors the International Review in Finance and the Pacific Basin Finance Journal.

This builds on a number of high profile achievements for Professor Ariff, including winning the competitive Komai Fellow Award in 1991 at the Tokyo University and holding the 1996 Ford Asia Fellowship.

Professor Ariff's research and consulting specialisation is broadly in finance, taxation, privatisation, and capital market research. His books and journal articles on those areas relating to Asia are widely cited in the finance, capital market and taxation literature. His scholarly articles have appeared in refereed journals published in Asia, Australia, U.K. and U.S.A.

He is also a co-director of the Monash Governance Research Unit and teaches corporate finance, investment finance, Asian capital markets, international finance, and mergers-acquisitions at graduate level.
