Graduate students from across the university have the opportunity to leverage their creative and entrepreneurial skills to win $10,000 by participating in the 2006 Monash New Enterprise Challenge.
Hosted by Monash's Graduate School of Business and sponsored by Monash Commercial , the Monash New Enterprise Challenge is a business planning competition for new venture start-ups seeking outside equity capital.
MBA director and competition organiser, Associate Professor Peter Reed said the challenge brings together graduate students across faculties such as science, engineering, arts, medicine and IT who have great innovative ideas and the business skills to transform those ideas into a commercial success.
“ The Monash New Enterprise Challenge is an incubator for new businesses. It is not an academic exercise as there is an expectation that the business proposals are capable of proceeding to commercialisation.”
Teams of two to five Monash graduate students are required to develop a realistic new venture proposal and to present a business plan seeking start-up funds from investors.
The competition culminates in a pitching event later this year on 27 October, where competing teams present their business plants to a group of venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and CEOs.
In addition to receiving a $10,000 prize, the winning team will represent Monash University at the national John Heine Entrepreneurial Challenge, hosted by Queensland University of Technology, in December. This competition, formerly named MOOT CORP Australia , is conducted under the auspices of the global MOOT CORP competition.
The winning team of the John Heine Entrepreneurial Challenge will represent Australia in the global MOOT CORP International competition hosted by McCombs School of Business, University of Texas .
