Chinese language databases in Library updated

Two Chinese language databases in the library, namely China Academic Journals and Dragon source have recently been updated.

China Academic Journals (CAJ) is a multidisciplinary Chinese language database of journal articles. Monash is subscribing to these components only: Literature/History/Philosophy, Economics/Politics/Law and Education/Social Science.

The database can be accessed by searching for the title “China Academic Journals” in the library catalogue. Later on there will be a link on the library database web page.

Access is by clicking the “IP Log-in” on the first screen.  After you have finished it is important to log out otherwise it does not time out. It is a good idea to close down and restart your internet browser to ensure that you have logged out. By doing this the next user will not be blocked.

After selecting an article to view, download the article by clicking on either “Download CAJ” or “Download PDF”.  The PDF version requires Adobe Acrobat version 8. This is loaded on the computers in the Asian Studies Research Collection.

“CAJ” refers to the Chinese language software “CAJ Viewer” used by the database vendor. The download link for this software is:
http://services.cnki.net/download/index.asp?classid=4&Nclassid=21 <http://services.cnki.net/download/index.asp?classid=4&Nclassid=21>.
Sometimes the PDF version can be slow to download but the CAJ version is always quick.

Dragon source is a full text Chinese language database of journal articles, many of which are not covered in CAJ. Dragon source can be accessed via the right hand side of the Net Library database home page, which is accessed via the library databases page.

Dragon source provide access to 200 major Chinese journals with access for 15 users. It is much easier to use than CAJ and does not require any software download.

Subjects covered include Humanities, Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Education and IT. For more information contact Dennis Kishere at 9905 9178 or Dennis.Kishere@lib.monash.edu.au
