Department of Economics acknowledged top achievers
The Department of Economics recently acknowledged their top achieving students during their annual prize giving ceremony held at the Monash Conference Centre at 30 Collins Street.
The main award of the night was the RH Snape – Productivity Commission Prize for the best honours student that was awarded to Joshua Craig.
The outstanding level of performance by students in the discipline of economics was evidenced by the fact that fifteen students qualified for the award for Consistent Excellence in Undergraduate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. This award recognises students who have gained high distinctions in at least three of the four first- and second-year core units in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
Gregory Shinsky, a third year double degree Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws student, gave a presentation on his experience as a 2008 winner of the University of St Gallen Wings of Excellence award.
Gregory was one of 200 students selected from leading universities worldwide, as a finalist for this prestigious award. The finalists participated in a demanding competition and the winners were invited to participate in the St Gallen Symposium in Switzerland.
Special mention should also be drawn of Paulina Fishman, one of our high achieving undergraduate students, who received prizes in a number of units including: Intermediate microeconomics, Intermediate macroeconomics, and Current issues in macroeconomic policy.
She was also one of the recipitents of the Consistent Excellence in Undergraduate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics prize. Paulina has also taken on the role of undergraduate student representative on the Department’s Advisory Board.
Guests at the 2008 award ceremony included Mrs Yvonne Snape, wife of the late Professor Emeritus Richard Snape, along with representatives of the various sponsors as well as students and their families.
