Book on history of marketing education launched
A book commemorating the Department of Marketing's evolution and its important contribution to marketing education was launched during a public lecture by Peter Chandler, Director of Marketing Strategy Services and Chair of the RACV at Federation Square. The launch was part of Monash University's 50th anniversary celebrations.
The book titled Evolution through Innovation - a History of Marketing Education at Monash was written by Monash alumni Katherine Sheedy (MPubHist 2005) and Emma Russell (MA 1997). It takes an in-depth look at the history of the department that spans three tertiary institutions and nearly four decades. It is a journey from pioneers of a little-known discipline to a world-leader in an established and important field of education.
Peter Chandler AM is a pioneer of marketing education in Australia. In his lecture, he reflected on how the discipline has evolved from its earliest times to today. He highlighted what he considers to have been the key industry and educational developments across each of the last five decades and then outlined where he sees marketing going in the
future.
"The driving force behind the success story has always been the people who guided and administered the Department, developed the courses, taught the students, promoted the discipline and forged national and international links with industry and academia. These individuals, along with those who enrolled in and graduated from the courses, had a vision and a passion for the future of tertiary marketing education," Peter said.
The Department of Marketing is today the largest provider of tertiary level marketing education in Australia.
