First students from China Jiangnan University graduate at Monash
The first group of students in the Faculty’s articulation program with China's Jiangnan University graduated during a ceremony held at Clayton.
The articulation program between the Faculty’s Gippsland campus and Jiangnan involves students from Wuxi in China's Jiangsu Province studying for two years of their business degree in China before transferring to Monash Gippsland to complete their Bachelor of Business and Commerce.
The first group of students arrived at Gippsland Campus in July 2006 and lived on-campus in Gippsland's student residential accommodation.
“A number of academics from Jiangnan have visited Monash Gippsland over the past three years to observe teaching methods used at the campus and to experience Australia's culture" said Professor Val Clulow, Head of the School of Business and Economics at Gippsland.
“They visit the campus each year to help students with the transition process. Some academics spend four weeks at the campus, observing lectures and tutorials in the School of Business and Economics, attending training sessions in our teaching methods and exploring the Gippsland region.
“A number of Monash staff have visited Jiangnan University to brief students on their study programs and discuss expectations about our campus life. This has enabled us to effectively manage the students' expectations of what it is like to live here and to adequately prepare them for study at Monash.”
"These students have come from a university with more than 22,000 students who study and live on-campus. In comparison, Monash Gippsland's on-campus student population is over 2000 and Churchill's local population is about 6000, with around 70,000 in surrounding Latrobe City. The students enjoyed this change, as well as the quality facilities, great staff and the quieter and more intimate learning environment."
Jiangnan University is in the city of Wuxi, China, which has approximately 4 million residents and is two hours drive from Shanghai.
