Monash partners leading Indian Business School

Postgraduate students from one of India's most prestigious business schools, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) are currently enrolled in an internship at leading Australian companies. The chance to gain invaluable experience in Australia is part of a new partnership with Monash University's Graduate School of Business.

The GSB is offering the students enrolled in IIM-C's Post Graduate Program for Executives (PGPEX) the opportunity to do the internship over five weeks at leading Australian companies in Melbourne until the end of July.

The students receive education on global business from Monash academics and will complete the internship at a leading Australian company of their choice.

The students, supervised by an IIM-C professor, work in groups of three to four on a project of strategic value to the company. Many of the companies in Australia participating in the program have interests in India.

IIM-C's PGPEX is a one-year, full-time program for experienced managers. The majority of IIM-C's PGPEX students have more than 10 years experience. Many obtained their first degree in engineering but their managerial experience covers a variety of industries.

IIM-C is one of the top three business schools in India. It is well known worldwide by leading companies and recruitment firms, who clamour to attract its talented PGPEX graduates. IIM-C offers places to only 300 MBA candidates annually from a pool of about 240,000 applicants.

Professor Amrik Sohal, Associate Dean - India Development, said the new partnership between Monash and IIM-C highlighted the strong international focus of the faculty.

“The aim of this partnership is to provide an umbrella for academic activities,” Professor Sohal said. "Areas of joint activity may include, research and training programs. We will also look at exchange of materials, articles and publications and other activities as may be mutually agreed upon."
