Knowledge partnership with Vietnam Finance Industry

The Department of Accounting and Finance recently presented an executive training program in the offices of the Securities Research and Training Centre, State Securities Commission (SRTC) in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The training program is a result of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC) signed between the SSC and the department in 2007. The MOU covers cooperation across the areas of collaborative research and executive programs.

The training program covered the subject area of “Financial Statement Analysis and Corporate Valuation” and was presented by Mr Victor Borg, lecturer in the department. The program was provided on a fee for service basis.

The participants included executives from securities firms, banks, fund managers as well as staff from the regulator (the SSC). The feedback received from the participants was very positive.

The department will be delivering a further three executive training programs for the SRTC in Hanoi throughout this year across a range of topics. In 2009 it is anticipated that the same programs will be delivered in Ho Chi Minh City on behalf of the SSC.

This endeavour complements the activities that are resulting from an MOU signed with the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) in April 2006 that is producing outcomes of both collaborative research and executive training activities. The department currently has a number of postgraduate students and staff from Vietnam.
