Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics academic receives VC Award for Teaching Excellence

Gerrie Roberts from the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics has been awarded the 2008 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence. Gerrie is highly regarded by her students for her innovative approach to teaching which is based on her extensive and ongoing industry experience.

The University annually recognises and rewards exemplary teaching through the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence. Four awards are available for teaching excellence by individuals or teams.

“Whilst achieving student engagement in the co-creation of their own learning outcomes is most rewarding, to receive acknowledgement of my efforts in the form of this award, even further bolsters my commitment to quality teaching,” Gerrie said.

Kevin Tant from the Department of Accounting and Finance was acknowledged for the award he received from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Kevin was cited for his project which uses technology to teach theory and provide a practical link to industry.

The criteria for the University's Teaching Excellence Awards are identical to those of the Awards for Teaching Excellence and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

The annual awards recognise and reward exemplary teaching. Nominees are assessed on the basis of their approach to teaching, curriculum development, approaches to assessment, respect and support for student development and scholarly activities that enhance learning and teaching. Each recipient receives a medallion, a permanent citation and $5000.
