Students share their Business Internship experience

A total of 17 students participating in the Business Internship program in their third year at Berwick and Peninsula campuses were recently given the opportunity to share their work experience with other students, academics and host organisations.

The Business Internship Program is an academic program offered to B.BusCom students as summer elective subject worth 6 credit points (BEW3101). The internship, conducted over the holiday period, gave business students from Peninsula and Berwick campuses the opportunity to experience life in the workforce and apply their theoretical knowledge. In addition to their oral presentations, the students completed a research report on a topic relevant to their internship.

It also provided a valuable opportunity for businesses to gain the benefit of a student who has up-to-date knowledge in the area in which the business operates and is  eager to apply the knowledge for the better of the business.

Students had to work for a minimum of 20 working days either continuous or intermittent. The businesses were under no obligation to provide remuneration to the students. Some internship businesses offered to cover the student’s expenses with a nominal gratuity, and several internship students obtained ongoing part-time work with their host organisation following the completion of their internship.

Judging by the enthusiastic feedback from internship participants (students and host organisations alike), this summer’s inaugural offering of this Business Internship unit was a great success.
